“Instructor Kevin Ritz’s enthusiasm for the program really made it a great choice,” John said. Near the end of the term of study, an opportunity to tap his depth of experience through the Coast Guard presented itself, and John signed on to teach diesel and hydraulic systems. “I view it as an honor and really enjoy working with Kevin and being part of the systems program at school,” he said.
As the marine systems program continues to grow and evolve, John looks forward to contributing to that evolution.
“Students should consider the Northwest School of Wooden Boatbuilding and the systems program because of the education they will receive and the quality of the instruction,” he said. “The teachers all have a vested interest in seeing students succeed to the fullest.”
When he’s not working with students at the boat school, John enjoys indulging his passion for art, drawing in particular. He and Kristin live in nearby Port Ludlow, where he enjoys “all the peninsula has to offer, hiking, biking, and visiting the weekend farmer’s markets.” He also runs, and recently completed his first 12K competition.
