Federal Financial Aid Approved Programs
The following programs are approved for Federal Financial Aid for those who qualify:
Getting Started
We are approved to offer Federal Student Aid, including Direct Student Loans and Pell Grants.
Students can find information and apply for Federal Financial Aid, Pell Grants, and Direct Student Loans at www.studentaid.gov.
To apply for Federal Student Aid (FSA), students must complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) online at www.studentaid.gov.
While there is no official deadline for submitting the FAFSA at NWSWB, we strongly recommend that students apply for financial aid at the same time they enroll.
Federal School Code
Northwest School of Wooden Boatbuilding’s School Code: 041550
A Federal School Code is a unique number for each school, college, or university. You use it on your FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) to tell the U.S. Department of Education which schools should receive your financial aid information.
Applying for Federal Financial Aid
The FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) process has been simplified with fewer questions, making it easier to apply. For the 2025-2026 FAFSA, you will need to use 2023 tax information. If you or your parents filed taxes in 2023, you’ll use the 2023 tax returns to fill out the FAFSA. If taxes haven’t been filed yet, you can use estimated income, but you’ll need to update the FAFSA later with the correct tax information once filed.
If you filed taxes, you can use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool to directly transfer your tax info into the FAFSA.
Veterans Education Benefits / GI Bill®
Education benefits are available to U.S. Military Veterans through the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) benefits and services. The school is not able to tell you what benefits you are eligible to receive. You must contact the VA for information about your benefits. To obtain this information, visit benefits.va.gov/gibill.
To apply for benefits online, you may complete a VONAPP (Veterans Online Application) at www.ebenefits.va.gov or download and complete VA Form 22-1990 (Application for VA Education Benefits) and mail it to the VA. All instructions are included with the form.
For specific GI Bill® questions, or to receive VA From 22-1990 by mail, please contact the VA at 1-888-442-4551.
Scholarships
The school provides a curated list of scholarships, which includes both internally administered scholarships—awarded directly by the school—and external scholarships—offered by outside organizations. This list helps students identify financial opportunities from a variety of sources, making it easier to find scholarships they may be eligible for.

U.S. Department of Education Net Price Calculator
The Net Price Calculator is a tool used to estimate the cost of attendance and federal aid eligibility for full-time, first-time degree- or certificate-seeking undergraduate students. Estimated cost of attendance is the total amount it may cost to go to school. It is composed of educational expenses that you may accrue while pursuing your education, including both direct costs like tuition payments and indirect potential costs like transportation and rent. Visit our Tuition & Fees webpage for more information on what cost of attendance means.
Calculations are based on the parameters for a first time, first year student during a standard academic school year. This means that the summer quarter is not included in the calculations. The calculator estimates costs for the 2023-2024 cycle based on tuition, fees, housing, and food costs for the prior completed academic year (2021-2022). Results are dependent on the accuracy and completeness of the information entered and is intended to provide only a general guide to your eligibility for financial aid. Any award is not guaranteed by NWSWB and is meant to be an indication of the aid you may be eligible to receive. This is not an application for financial aid. Your information will not be retained or transmitted to NWSWB in any way.
